These are pictures of the landscaping when we moved into the house in 2003.  The previous owners concentrated primarily on a large plots of a single care-free plant, which had been neglected for over five years when the house was rented out.  While some of these plants are wonderful, I've decided to take the landscaping in a slightly different direction.

Left most of this intact, including the coreopsis and sedum (which are much larger now), the patches of pachysandra, daylilies, lily-of-the-valley, and hostas, although the hostas and lily-of-the-valley are going to go at some point because they're planted in almost full sun now because three trees were removed.

Added a number of perennials, including Shasta daisies, gaura, anemone pulsatilla, and lavendar.  The four paving stones set for no apparantly reason have been removed and a number of daylilies were planted.

Most of this was left intact.  Added some shrubs around and in the ribbon grass, and planted some siberian irises in front of the rhodie/ribbon grass near the tree.  The rhodie to the right of the picture didn't survive last year's wet, pest-filled weather.  I'm planning to replace that with daylilies and roses.

Behind the trees and rhodie you can see the back corner of the property, currently planted with yet more ribbon grass and lamb's ears, plus a whole lot of weeds.  I plan to rip all that out and plant a memorial garden.

Mostly intact, still.  The plot of ribbon grass at the back of the garage has now been removed, and is waiting on perennials.  The plot along the fence you can barely see at the far right of the photo has been cleaned out and is waiting for roses.

Most of this is still intact.  I'm planning to remove the overgrown juniper in the foreground, at some point, and replace some of the evergreen hedges with roses.  The strip along the driveway, formerly filled with lamb's ears and mostly-dead azaleas, is now planted with perennials, including alyssum, perennial geraniums, salvia, coreopsis, saponaria, rudbeckia, asters, and gailliardia.  I also planted two trees, and I'm tentatively planning to expand the driveway strip to bridge the corner by the sidewalk and plant another small ornamental tree there, along with more perennials.

Nothing's changed in this view except we've added some shrubs and trees and removed the white faux-fence thing around the circle of daylilies.  At some point I'll have to get rid of the lily-of-the-valley in the center of the photo because it gets too much sun and burns up by June.  Also, exactly how much ribbon grass do we really need on one property?  Geez!

More photos to come as my garden evolves!
