Garden on 4/24/04

It's azalea season here!  The beautiful azalea bush I moved last fall seems to have survived and thrived on its move -- it's giving an even better show this year than it did last year!  The daffodils are fading, and hyacinths are gone, but some of my braver perennials have poked up their heads.  Daylilies are up, spreading their lovely foliage all over my garden.  The hardy geraniums are also up, impressing me with how much bigger they are than when I planted them last fall.  Also poking up their heads are the Siberian irises, coreopsis, and chrysanthemum superbum.  And the pulsatilla are blooming!

Thankfully, my new trees, planted last fall, are finally all leafing out.  I was starting to worry at their slow starts!  Many of the shrubs that were new last year are also leafing out at long last.

I planted five more roses this past weekend -- my order from Pickering -- so I now have seven roses in the ground and two in pots.  Only rose I still have soaking is Camayeux, which is waiting on the removal of a pile of stepping stones that are in the way.  I have six more roses shipping this week.

My perennials order from Bluestone Perennials arrived on Saturday, but I haven't done anything with that yet except unpack and water.  I hope to leave work early a couple days this week and make a dent in those.
