Garden on 5/1/04

Quieter week for me -- some perennials are continuing to grow and thrive, but nothing's really flowering yet.  I did have some anemone blanda come up from bulbs, and the authorities forgot to tell my redbud that it's not supposed to flower the first spring it's in the ground.  It's not fully covered in flowers like mature redbuds, but it does look lacy and lovely anyway.

Still haven't done anything about those dratted grape vines, but at least they're flowering right now and looking very lovely.

Mostly a rainy dismal week, so I didn't get a lot of planting done.  I was out yesterday for 4.5 hours, though -- planted three more roses (that's the hard part) and 24 perennials.  Plus I scraped off mulch from the back garden bed and piled on the compost before replacing the mulch.  I also composted a load of grass clippings, shredded newspaper, and a week's worth of coffee grounds and filters from work.  After all that work, I'm taking today off!  (Plus, the weather is dismal!)

This week, I should have my last order of roses coming (three -- Gentle Maid, Belle sans Flatterie, and Mrs. R.M. Finch), and I still have a LOT of perennials to plant.  Plus one of my orders of daylilies arrived this week, and I hadn't yet figured out where to put them all!
