Garden in September, 2004

Well, the late summer glory is fading, but the fall flowers are up and running.  The combo of sedum, helenium, and asters is especially rewarding.  The unknown shrub next to them is lovely, adding a russet fall foliage to the picture.

Most of the perennials I planted this spring are really thriving.  The catmint and calamint are especially robust (almost too robust!).  I'm still getting sporadic flowering from some of my roses.  Most of my roses flowered only sporadically this year, but like most perennials and shrubs, they'll get better every year.  (The gardeners' saying is "First year they sleep, second year they creep, third year they leap.")

With my health bad, I ended up hiring people who do some yard for me.  So the weeds were cleaned out, shrubs and trees were pruned, and a few roses still remaining in pots were planted.  Everything looks much better now!
